14th Aysgarthian Run - new course, new records!

14th Aysgarthian Run - new course, new records!

In its 14th year, The Aysgarthian Run remains one of the most popular features of the school calendar amongst boys, parents and siblings.  This year over 150 runners took part (not counting the dogs!)  and age was no obstacle with the youngest competitor to cover the course being two years old (albeit transported in a backpack) and Mr Morse claiming to be the oldest, or at least the competitor with the most grey hair!

Despite the damp and muddy terrain, it was a fantastic afternoon with great competition from all the runners, ‘friendly rivalry’ between the parents and a fun atmosphere amongst the whole Aysgarth community.

With our magnificent cross country runners on brilliant form this season, there was a fierce battle to see who would cross the line first. In the senior race, that honour went to Timmy Clarkson Webb, followed admirably by Harry Page and Freddie Read. Timmy is a seasoned professional when it comes to the Aysgarthian, having not won it 3 times (twice as a senior and once as a junior).

In the junior race, Barney Gawthorpe took the crown with Henry Scott and Rufus Hornyold Strickland not far behind. It was a double Gawthorpe victory with younger brother Harry coming in first for Form 1.

We were delighted to see so many Pre-Prep children and parents taking part in the race as well. Huge congratulations to Alice Prudhoe for winning the Pre-Prep race and also to Georgie Bell and Nancy Manners for coming second and third respectively. The girls in the Pre-Prep are clearly giving the boys a run for their money!

This year’s course was a brand new course so all the winners set new records.

Headmaster, Rob Morse, said:

“Sunday was a perfect example of what it means to be an Aysgarthian – plenty of fun, great competition and a wonderful family atmosphere. A huge thanks to Gordon and the rest of the team for organising the event and our brilliant new course. The bar has been set now with some fantastic course records from some extremely talented and determined runners. Thank you also for the support from the parents in Pre-Prep and Prep – it was a great opportunity to all get together and have some fun!"
