The excitement level has understandably been building in the Pre-Prep this week. Assemblies have been focussed on the meaning of Advent and the preparations we make for Christmas. Furthermore the children and teachers have already been working very hard on their preparations.
The Nursery and Reception children will be taking part in a traditional Nativity tableaux and we are delighted that such young children will be on stage in front of parents and guests.
There is nothing traditional about the PP1-PP3 Nativity play however. Mrs Barlow tells me that we can expect an all singing and all dancing spectacular! We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to the show.
Full details of the forthcoming events are listed below. Next week’s edition of the Acorn will be delayed to afford us the opportunity to include the pictures of our aforementioned Nativity Plays.
With all best wishes,
Rob and Lottie Morse

3D Christmas Preparations
This week in PP3B and PP3R we have been looking at 3D shapes and their properties. The children investigated a range of 3D shapes and found them in real life around school. We then moved on to looking at the nets of shapes and identified where we could see a range of 2D shapes in the faces of 3D shapes. The children became really good at identifying which nets matched different 3D shapes.
The children then made their own nets of cubes, cuboids and tetrahedrons out of different coloured cards to make this super 3D advent calendar.
The children filled their 3D shapes with a nativity character and a little treat and look forward to opening them in the days ahead.
Researching Facts about the Isle of Coll
PP2 have been using ipads to fact find about the Isle of Coll as they create tourist brochures. This is linked with our Geography work and the class have enjoyed the stories of Katie Morag who lives on the Isle of Stray, an imaginary island based on the Isle of Coll.
Last week’s certificates were presented to:
Rose Wyvill for being kind.
Serena Hudson for her wonderful reading skills.
Georgie Bell for fantastic science investigation.
Hector Pearce for perseverance.
PP1 have been retelling the Christmas story whilst practising their handwriting. They have been working especially hard on the lead in stroke for each letter and then joining the letters to produce cursive script.
Early Years News
We have been very excited by numbers in Early Years this week and there has been some fantastic maths taking place!
We have also made Advent Calendars and Christmas tree decorations. Our decorations were made from salt dough in the shape of Numicon pieces.
The Reception Class have used the Numicon to help think about some ‘big’ numbers—right up to double digits.
We have worked together to sort the numbers into the correct order to make our own number line. Zoe made a number line by writing all the numbers down all by herself.
Sadie created a beautiful painting and learnt how the ’2’ represented the number of faces in the picture.
