Visit to Catterick Garrison

Visit to Catterick Garrison

From the Head’s Office

What an incredible week we have had in the Pre-Prep!  The children and teachers would like to thank the Bateman family for hosting an unforgettable visit to Catterick Barracks as part of our ‘Memories’ topic which includes stories from WW1 (see more inside).  The history certainly came to life as children were able to truly immerse themselves – climbing in, over, through and trying on equipment from the era.   The children certainly approved, with many declaring this “the best trip ever!”

PP1-3 also thoroughly enjoyed their visit yesterday to Beamish, where each class followed a different programme, tailored to their class work.  Children shopped for items to send to ‘Steve’, a soldier on the front line in France.  Again, the opportunity to really experience life for families during the war led to some superb questions from the children ... and rather unexpected answers!

Thank you so much to all of you who have rummaged through the loft for artefacts to share with the children.  Their enthusiasm and excitement is wonderful!

With best wishes,

Susie Drake,  Head of Pre-Prep

Our Class Trip to Catterick Army Base

By Buster Preston

We went to Catterick Army Base.  They told us about the Dragoons.  Then we got on the mini bus to see some weapons.  We got to fire them, then we saw a pretend battle.   After we saw some tanks and jeeps.  I moved the camera around.  I saw Humphrey on the camera and then we went to try some army clothes on.  I put on a gas mask and I looked through army binoculars.  Then I went in to a bunker, it was cool.  There was a little window, I saw the sky out of it.
