WWI History

From the Head’s Office

The happy chatter in school at the start of the week has been filled with an excited buzz of half-term adventures. Stories of holidays, trips and projects completed have provided the perfect topic for discussion and writing in school – thank you to all for fuelling the children’s imaginations. It is always special to experience those moments when children lose themselves in their learning.
One of those times was yesterday, when quite spontaneously, the PP3 children built trenches and a field hospital from leaves in the playground and a full scale WW1 re-enactment ensued. Both Mrs Rawson and myself had to be repeatedly warned that we were straying into ‘no-man’s land’, luckily the nurses were happy to attend to our war-wounds!
I also have to mention the enjoyment, fascination and sense of wonder that children in reception experienced during their recent trip to Thorpe Perrow. Where do I start ... the colours, the climbing, the sensation of an owl flying over the children’s heads ... and of course the ‘real-life’ mini bus trip! Another memorable days learning for all the children involved.
Could I finally remind parents that APPA will be holding their annual pumpkin competition at the bonfire tea this weekend. The children should bring their carved pumpkins into school on Friday morning when judging will take place.

With best wishes,

Susie Drake,  Head of Pre-Prep

Fire Work Code—Please be safe this weekend:

ONLY adults should light or hold fireworks.

WHEN watching fireworks, stand well back.

NEVER go near a firework that has been lit.  Even if it hasn’t gone off, it can still explode.

KEEP pets indoors so they don’t get frightened.

If you are given a sparkler: ALWAYS wear gloves.  HOLD at arm’s length.  When your sparkler goes out DON’T TOUCH, it could still burn you.

WWI History

Mrs Harrison-Topham came to show PP3 some of their family treasures from WWI about Great Grandfather Ernest Bristow.  This included his medals, jacket buttons and a 100 year old newspaper article from his home town.

Grandparents Day - Friday 14th November, 2.00-3.30pm

Through out this term the PP1, 2 and 3 have been looking at different aspects relating to WWI, memories and families.  We have talked a lot about grandparents and felt it would be lovely for the children to have the opportunity to show their grandparents around the school and their classrooms.

We would like to invite grandparents to come into school for the afternoon of  November 14th for a look around Pre-Prep before having afternoon tea in the Prep School dining room.

Please could parents email Mrs Pinkney the names and addresses of grandparents so that the children can send invitations.  This invitation is extended to grandparents of children in Nursery and Reception.
