A Warm Welcome from Jonathon and Hester
Aysgarth is a special place where dedicated staff provide pupils with the opportunities, support, and challenges to thrive academically and personally while forming lifelong friendships.

It was evident from our first visit that Aysgarth is a special place, a wonderful school with a homely feel where a team of dedicated specialists provides pupils with the time, opportunities, support and challenge to develop their potential whilst forming life-long friendships and memories. It is a great privilege for us to lead this flourishing school, harnessing the considerable skills of our talented staff and providing the children with a magical childhood that creates firm stepping stones to their senior schools and their adult lives beyond. Our child-centred approach allows individual strengths and differences to be recognised, celebrated and nurtured.
At every opportunity, Aysgarth children are encouraged to make the very most of their potential both in and out of the classroom. Whilst academic rigour is paramount, the children thrive in the fields of sport, music, drama and art. Furthermore, an extensive extracurricular programme allows each child to explore and enjoy activities that fall outside of the normal curriculum, providing further scope to build self-confidence and develop new skills.
The Aysgarth values of respect, endeavour and courage run through the very heart of the School. The importance of kindness and service to others are also central to a child’s journey through Aysgarth.
Aysgarth has a strong boarding tradition and pupils from age 8 to 13 regularly travel from throughout the country and across the world to experience an Aysgarth education. As such, the School is also home to our many boarders and the numerous supportive staff who live in these delightful surroundings. The boarding house provides excellent opportunities for the pupils to develop a better understanding of themselves and the people around them. Their potential, individuality, independence and well-being are nurtured and guided and they flourish in the knowledge that you get what you give, so kindness and consideration become second nature.
In September 2024, we marked a significant moment in Aysgarth’s history by welcoming girls into our Prep School. Having flourished together in the Pre-Prep for over 30 years, girls and boys now continue that journey side by side from age 8 to 13. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and girls now make up over 30% of our pupil body.
Our new chapter as a member of the Rugby School Group brings with it further cause for excitement. We are proud to be part of a group that shares our values, our commitment to boarding, and our pursuit of excellence. This partnership provides access to greater strategic leadership, wider resources and expertise, and collaborative opportunities across all areas of school life, particularly in teaching, learning and professional development.
I am confident that, through this partnership (with Rugby), we will be even better placed to equip our pupils with the character, curiosity and confidence to thrive wherever their path may lead.
We recognise the importance of your decision to entrust your child to our hands. The environment in which your child grows up will deeply influence their worldview, their sense of self, and their understanding of the world around them.
Most families, like ours, began their Aysgarth journey with a visit. So we invite you to visit Aysgarth, to see the distinctive blend of tradition, innovation and warmth. Let us show you how we deliver on our promises—investing in your child’s future, fostering a legacy that will endure for generations.

The Best Start for the Journey Ahead
We believe passionately in extending childhood, offering more time to be young and more space to grow. Whether your child is starting in Pre-Prep, boarding for the first time, or working towards senior school assessments, Aysgarth offers more than an education. We offer the best possible start to the right leading senior schools for them.
Our pupils go on to an impressive range of top-tier senior schools across the UK. For boys, our record speaks for itself: we remain a trusted feeder school to many of the most competitive destinations. For girls, boarding expands the options considerably, giving them a broader, national range of senior schools to consider, all while building confidence, independence, and friendships that last.
For international families, Aysgarth opens doors to the best of British education. Our pupils are not only placed successfully in leading senior schools, but they arrive more than ready. We are proud of our global alumni network and the senior school and university pathways our pupils follow.
From the very start, our Pre-Prep ensures a seamless journey. Pupils benefit from subject-specialist teaching, strong pastoral care, and a setting designed to nurture them at their own pace. With access to the full breadth of Aysgarth life, from music and sport to outdoor learning and chapel, even our youngest children begin their journey as part of the wider Aysgarth community.
But Aysgarth offers more than school preparation. We are champions of extending childhood. Giving pupils more time to be young and more space to grow. Set in the rolling North Yorkshire countryside, our school offers freedom from the pressure of early testing, screen culture, and image-conscious peer dynamics. Instead, children here enjoy a childhood rooted in exploration, creativity, and play. “Let them breathe. Let them roam. Let them become.”
At Aysgarth, we believe in childhood, in potential, and in futures well-prepared. This is more than a school. It’s the beginning of a remarkable journey.
As part of the Rugby School Group, we’re connected to forward-thinking academic opportunities, and we equip our pupils not just to do well, but to lead with courage and imagination.
