Pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring every child feels safe, supported and valued whilst developing the resilience they need to thrive.
We understand children today face immense pressures, from academic competition and social media to the complexities of being a teenager. At Aysgarth, pastoral care is woven into daily life. Boys and girls feel safe, supported and valued, developing the resilience they need to thrive.
Pupils split their day between academic work and creative or physical activities, exploring interests, building confidence and fostering friendships. By encouraging outdoor adventures and limiting screen time, we encourage a positive relationship with technology while nurturing their mental health.
Staff continually monitor the well-being of every child and offer support and share observations when needed. We have a culture where pupils feel comfortable seeking help, whether celebrating successes or navigating challenges. Whether it’s a kind word during tough times or gentle reminders to be considerate of peers, we’ve created a culture of empathy and understanding at Aysgarth.
From chapel and house systems to team-building activities, we provide pupils with the tools and environment they need to flourish.
The pastoral team provides dedicated mental health support to our pupils, working closely with wellbeing professionals. This includes weekly visits from Teenagers Translated, whose expertise helps guide and support both pupils and staff.
We use the innovative STEER toolkit to identify potential challenges early through regular assessments, providing tailored support where needed. Recent assessments show less than 5% of our pupils required additional support, compared to the national average of 13.4%. Pupils score highly in their willingness to seek help and share ideas, reflecting the nurturing community we have built here.Safeguarding and well-being are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to providing boys and girls with the support, guidance and environment they need to flourish at Aysgarth and beyond.
