Health and nutrition
At Aysgarth School, providing healthy, delicious meals is central to our pastoral care. Good nutrition is vital for children’s growth, well-being, and success in all areas of school life. Our commitment to fresh, wholesome food ensures every child enjoys a balanced diet while developing lifelong healthy eating habits.
Our talented catering team prepares homemade meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, accommodating all dietary needs. We aim to be nut-free and avoid additives such as aspartame. By encouraging children to try new foods and working closely with parents, we support even the fussiest eaters in enjoying well-rounded meals.
To keep dining exciting, our menus change with the seasons and often feature themed lunches, such as Greek feasts for European Languages Day or bush tucker BBQs for Book Week. Break times include home-baked treats, fresh fruit, and healthy snacks, while our well-stocked tuck cupboard provides occasional, thoughtful treats.
Mealtimes foster connections and teach good manners. Staff host tables, engaging pupils in conversation while encouraging proper table etiquette, such as sitting up straight and using cutlery correctly. For visiting families, lunchtimes are often the highlight, as they share a meal with pupils who are candid and engaging about school life.
Special events, like the Big Lunch for Pre-Prep families, are a testament to our dining culture. Parents serve meals and watch their children enjoy everything on their plates with gratitude and good manners. Match teas are another highlight, pairing delicious food with camaraderie by seating visiting teams with Aysgarth pupils to forge friendships beyond the scores.
Through our investment in high-quality, internally managed catering, we provide meals made from scratch wherever possible, reducing processed foods and ensuring children are nourished, cared for, and ready to thrive.
