Clare Bromfield - MA in Advanced Educational Practice at the Institute of Education, University College London. PCGE MFL, University of Exeter. BA Hons English and French, University of Exeter.
Clare has spent over a decade working in prep schools in southwest London, teaching French and preparing pupils for both 13+ scholarships (e.g., Winchester, Tonbridge, Kings School Wimbledon) and Common Entrance exams (Eton, Harrow, Wellington, Uppingham, Reeds, Hampton, Sherborne, Dulwich). She also served as Head of Year 6, supporting pupils and parents through the 11+ entrance exams.
Clare also spent a year teaching in Melbourne, Australia, mainly so she could watch the Ashes. Clare and her family moved north when they had their daughter to be nearer to her husband's family, and Aysgarth was the perfect fit.
Clare joined Aysgarth in 2022 as Head of French, and after a few weeks, it felt like she had always worked there. She really enjoys teaching Common Entrance French, as it provides the ideal level of challenge and accessibility for all pupils and sets them up perfectly for GCSE French. Scholarship French allows her to introduce pupils to grammar usually tackled at A-Level and degree level.
Her new role will allow her to support scholars pastorally through the challenges ahead while stretching them beyond the curriculum. Clare will liaise with all expert Heads of Departments and teachers in preparing scholars for their subject-specific paths.
"I am looking forward to supporting our scholars pastorally in their endeavours and working closely with our expert teachers to best prepare the scholars for the rigours ahead."
