Aysgarth pupils took to the stage this week for the school’s annual Poetry Recitation Competition, showcasing their confidence and passion for spoken word. The event was a wonderful conclusion to Book Week, celebrating a love of literature and the power of performance.
Each year, the English department carefully curates an anthology of poems, from which every pupil selects a piece to learn and perform in front of their class. Teachers then choose one pupil from each class to advance to the final, where they recite their poem in front of the whole school and a panel of external judges.
This year, we were delighted to welcome judges from Fettes, who were thoroughly impressed by the outstanding standard of performances. Pupils demonstrated exceptional clarity, expression, and confidence, making this a truly memorable competition.
The event continues to be a highlight of the academic calendar, inspiring pupils to develop their public speaking skills and appreciate the beauty of poetry.
