Aysgarth School is pleased to report the impressive performance of our U13A and U11A hockey teams at the recent Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Hockey Tournament hosted at Fettes yesterday, 7 February.
The U11A team demonstrated exceptional skill by securing victories in their first three matches. Despite narrowly missing out on the title in the final group stage against Carfilgield, we went through into the cup semi-final as 2nd best against St Peter’s who won the other group. However, we rallied to claim third place overall after a decisive 4-0 victory against Loretto. This achievement sets a new school record, filling the Aysgarth community with pride.
Meanwhile, the U13A team showcased their talent by winning 4 matches, drawing 1 and losing 1 and were unlucky to be in the stronger group. At the group stages, we finished on the same points as St Peter’s but unfortunately went into the plate competition due to goal difference. Aysgarth won the semi-finals 7-0 against St Mary’s Melrose. Their outstanding performance led to the team securing their first-ever hockey silverware in the school's history, with a convincing 3-0 victory over Belhaven in the final of the plate competition.
Reflecting on this significant accomplishment, Alex Lane, Director of Sport, expressed immense pride in the teams' efforts, stating, "This is a momentous milestone for Aysgarth, and we commend all the boys for their dedication and sportsmanship.
Aysgarth School extends its heartfelt congratulations to all players, coaches, and supporters involved in this remarkable achievement, highlighting the bright future of Aysgarth hockey.
