Aysgarth’s Green Team Welcomes New Feathered Friends with Owl Box Project

The Aysgarth Green Team has taken another inspiring step towards environmental stewardship by installing an owl box in the historic Aysgarth Oak tree. This special project, made even more exciting with the addition of a camera inside, will allow pupils to monitor any activity and hopefully catch a glimpse of a new feathery resident in the months to come.

This initiative is a wonderful opportunity for pupils to engage with nature and learn more about local wildlife. It offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Encouraging Biodiversity – Providing a safe habitat for owls supports local wildlife and helps maintain the natural balance of the ecosystem.
  • Enhancing Learning – Pupils can observe and study the owls' behaviours, gaining firsthand experience in conservation and ecology.
  • Fostering Responsibility – Taking care of the environment and learning about conservation instils a sense of stewardship in young minds.
  • Creating a Lasting Legacy – The owl box will serve as a long-term project that future pupils can continue to observe and enjoy.

This project would not have been possible without the generosity of Nigel Scott and Chris Bright from the YIBS Leeming Bar branch, who kindly supplied the materials for the owl box. Their support has helped make this fantastic learning opportunity a reality.

We look forward to seeing if any new residents move in.
