Creative Composition on Creative Arts Day

As part of this year’s Creative Arts Day, a group of eight talented pupils took on a brilliantly imaginative challenge—Creative Composition.

Rather than working with a silent video, the pupils selected a well-known clip (in this case, a scene from Mr Bean), turned off the original sound, and set about creating and performing their own soundtrack—complete with music, sound effects, and even dubbed speech.

Each pupil had access to up to three instruments and was encouraged to experiment with sound, timing, and presentation. The process demanded real compositional skill—interpreting visual cues, recreating dialogue, and matching mood through music is no small task. It takes a keen ear, quick wit, and a bold creative instinct.

The result after a few hours was hilarious, clever, and genuinely impressive, showcasing not only musical ability but an advanced understanding of storytelling through sound.
