Sport At Aysgarth

Our pupils enjoy Games six times a week with a wide variety of sports on offer. Daily double Games and additional PE sessions provide a huge opportunity to develop teamwork, strategic thinking, emotional resilience, and self-discipline. These regular sessions also encourage perseverance, healthy competition, and a lifelong love of physical activity. This provision is the absolute minimum with a huge number of sporting clubs after school too, from cricket consultations to swimming clubs, wall climbing and fencing.

At Aysgarth, we believe that sport is a powerful catalyst for building leadership. A recent Forbes report highlights that nearly half of women credit their leadership skills to experiences gained through sport participation. A recent study highlighted in The Guardian, and reported in The Times, found that girls who engage in sport are 50% more likely to attain senior professional roles in adulthood. This equates to a life advantage comparable to holding a university degree.

Last weekend, our U10 girls' hockey team triumphed at the Barnard Castle tournament, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork. Additionally, three of our pupils have been selected for representational horse-riding, and 14 for representative hockey, underscoring the effectiveness of our sports programme.

These achievements reflect the "Aysgarth gumption" that defines our community - a spirit of determination, teamwork, and excellence. We are proud to provide an environment where our pupils can develop a lifelong passion for sport, gaining invaluable skills that will serve them well into adulthood.
