At Aysgarth, we recognise the transformative power of reading and its vital role in children’s development. Reading is more than a skill—it’s a gateway to imagination, empathy, and academic success. By enhancing language abilities, strengthening vocabulary, and fostering critical thinking, reading lays the foundation for lifelong learning and emotional intelligence.
To ensure our pupils benefit from these advantages, every child at Aysgarth enjoys two timetabled reading sessions daily. These include teacher-led reading, independent reading, and opportunities for peer support. A recent example is the guided reading session for Form 1 pupils, where Form 5 students served as reading guides, offering encouragement and mentorship.
Through these structured sessions, we aim to develop not only strong readers but also curious and compassionate learners. By immersing children in stories that introduce diverse characters and perspectives, we nurture their ability to understand and connect with the world around them.
At Aysgarth, we’re proud to make time (twice a day) for what matters most—empowering our pupils through the joy and importance of reading.
