World Read Aloud Day

At Aysgarth, we encourage the children to regularly read aloud in a number of different situations from the formal (in chapel) to the more informal (reading their story to their Talking Partner). We believe reading aloud is incredibly beneficial for a child's learning journey as it not only improves their fluency and comprehension understanding but also allows the child to hear their own voice and encourages them to become more self-confident in how they are around others. Listening to adults reading aloud is equally important. Gathering at the end of the day for a story is a magical time for children of all ages and is a time when imaginations flow and vocabulary enrichened. A confident reader uses prosody to captivate their audience and this can only be learned by listening to exemplary behaviour before being put into practise.
