Aysgarth Pupils Shine in Townsend-Warner History Prize

We are delighted to celebrate all our pupils who entered the Townsend-Warner Preparatory Schools History Prize, now in its 141st year. This prestigious competition exists to encourage a love of history among young people, inspiring them to explore historical facts, analysis, and storytelling in an engaging and challenging way.

This year, over 1,100 pupils took part nationally in Paper 1, and the top 250 advanced to Paper 2. We are especially proud of Jago, Luke, and Felix, who achieved this remarkable milestone. A particular congratulations goes to Felix, who is a year younger than most applicants, making his achievement all the more impressive.

The Townsend-Warner Prize is one of the oldest institutions in the preparatory school world, older even than the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS), and has encouraged generations of young historians to explore the past with curiosity and enthusiasm. It is not tied to national testing or exams but instead seeks to foster enjoyment and discovery in historical reading and research.

We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who took part. Their commitment, curiosity, and hard work reflect the very best of what we aim to instil at Aysgarth: a love of learning, resilience, and the courage to challenge themselves.
