As part of our SEND training during Inset – and through our mutual connection with Rugby School – all staff took part in an online session led by Fintan (Fin) O’Regan, one of the UK’s leading behaviour and learning specialists. His presentation, “The Curious Case of Neurodiversity and Neurodivergence”, focused on how schools can better understand and support pupils with ADHD, offering practical strategies for teachers to apply in the classroom.
Fin brings a wealth of experience, having taught and led both in the UK and abroad, including as Headmaster of the UK’s first specialist school for children with ADHD/ODD. Today, he works as a consultant and lecturer, advising schools, universities, and charities on ADHD, neurodiversity, and behaviour. An internationally acclaimed presenter and author of more than a dozen books, his insight continues to shape best practice in supporting children with diverse learning needs.
We were also privileged to hear from Charlotte, one of our Gappers, who shared her own journey of living with ADHD since the age of five. Speaking candidly about her school experiences, the strategies that helped her learning, and the importance of empathy and understanding, Charlotte reminded us how much can be gained from listening to lived experience.
Both sessions offered invaluable perspectives, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to making Aysgarth an inclusive and supportive community for every pupil.
