Marin Awarded Prestigious Wavell Wakefield All Rounder Scholarship to Sedbergh

We are thrilled to share the news of Marin’s outstanding success in securing the Wavell Wakefield All Rounder Scholarship to Sedbergh School. This prestigious award is reserved for the most exceptional candidates who display excellence in more than one field of assessment and demonstrate the capacity to be outstanding leaders of the future.

Marin’s performance across his music, drama, and sporting assessments was exemplary, marking him as a truly versatile and dedicated "Aysgarthian." Amanda Ferguson, Director of Admissions at Sedbergh School, recognised Marin as an outstanding young man, a sentiment echoed by all of us here at Aysgarth.

The scholarship holds significant historical weight, named after the legendary Old Sedberghian, Sir Wavell Wakefield (Baron Wakefield of Kendal). Attending Sedbergh from 1912 to 1916, Sir Wavell was a polymath of talent; he captained the rugby 1st team, played 1st team cricket, won multiple athletics titles in hurdles and long jump, and served as Head of School.

His later life was equally remarkable, encompassing a heroic career as a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF during the First World War, a long-serving career as a Member of Parliament, and an iconic sporting legacy that included 31 caps for England Rugby and the Presidency of the RFU.

By receiving an award named after such a distinguished figure, Marin joins a lineage of excellence. We have watched Marin develop his leadership and role-model skills with great pride, and we are confident that he will continue to thrive and inspire others as he moves on to Sedbergh.

Congratulations, Marin, on this truly fantastic accomplishment.
